Lyrics to growing up macklemore3/10/2023 ![]() But the lyrics to Macklemore’s song created a buzz that led to more serious conversation among the political representatives. Washington politicians began to discuss marriage equality in February of 2012. His main point is that people can’t change who they are and that love is love.Īt the time of Same Love ’s release, gay marriage was illegal in most states, even in Washington. Later, he went on to discuss how certain political and religious leaders influenced the fight against marriage equality. In the song, Macklemore talks about how, when he was a little boy, certain stereotypes made him think he was gay. The song, Same Love, shocked his listeners due to it’s serious pro-stance on Gay Love. His main point is that people can’t change who they are and that love is love.” But, in July after his debut, Macklemore dropped a single that took a political, controversial stand. For a while, as Macklemore built his image, he kept releasing catchy, fun songs. The fun natured song became a household favorite, the catchy beat and unusual topic of thrift shopping lured in thousands. Macklemore became big in 2012 when he released his first song, Thrift Shop. To me, the most important musical activist is the Seattle native, Ben Haggerty, or, as most people know him, Macklemore. We are consistently exposed to artists, musicians, and authors who use their talent to be activists. It’s through social media and technology that our awareness is created. My generation is actually much more aware of social issues and accepting of diverse situations than those that fall before us. Technology and social media have ‘taken our attention away from what’s really important in life’. ![]() The music can be good and celebrated even if the person isnt and Macklemore and Ryan's music is really, really good.My generation is often chastised for being materialistic and ignorant of the problems in the world. I know Mack, we have actually had several, kind of ugly arguments over the years. I do agree though, don't celebrate the person. And what about the legends in the game like Brother Ali and OneBeLo who basically call Seattle a second home because of the movement thats going on here? What about The physics, Sol, Grynch, Grayskul, Nacho Picasso, Sam Lachow, JAKE ONE? Do you know these people? Because I do and they are all making and have made serious moves on a National level, some of them for years, and are all exceptionally nice, gracious and good people who take the time to be good at their craft, good to there friends and good to their fans. AND there is a TON of acts out here doing it that have great attitudes and personalities and it's misleading and slightly offensive that you would generalize the scene by citing 2 people. You ever do something you thought was cool, brag about it and realize you were a dick? Yep, we all have. Why all the personal jabs?Īnd as a part of the Seattle scene, I can tell you that pointing out 2 cats with ego's that MAYBE (keyword) did a shitty thing once, thats super shallow homie. Either like it and support it or dont like it move on. BUT REALLY, honestly, so-the-f***-what? They make music that is becoming extremely popular. And it's also been said around the town that Sabzi has a huge ego. Although he had a kid and it seemed to bring him down to earth a bit. Neema though, he's been "off", shall we say, for a while now and thats no secret. I am still friends with Ryan and I have never, ever heard this. I can actually vouch that this statement is pretty much true EXCEPT for the Ryan Lewis story. Obviously not everyone is going to like his music, but you can't shoot him down for the faults of other Seattle rappers or because you think the state of Seattle hip-hop is fucked. He is truly passionate about what he does. ![]() I've seen Macklemore live about 3 or 4 times now and I think his live shows are fantastic. The shit about Ryan Lewis (which is pretty fucked up if it's true), Sabzi, and Neema, which I actually thought was really interesting, doesn't have a lot to do with Macklemore except that I guess he works with Ryan Lewis a lot now. It seems like you have a really unique perspective on the guy since you've known him for a long time, I'm just confused on what your point is exactly? What I got from your post was that he made a song about a beloved Seattle icon who passed away and the song blew up, there are people who changed their tunes about him once he got famous, and you don't like one of his songs. His style is contrived? What does that mean? I'm not sure what you're criticizing Macklemore of here.
